Korean Reactions Vol. 2 — 6 More Korean Reactions Beyond the Basics | SingSay Korean
화이팅 · 좋겠다
엄마야 · 웃겨

Six more reactions,
past the basics.
Cute, creepy, cheering,
a little jealous, startled and laughing.
The words you hear once you know ‘대박’ and ‘헐’.
Our first album, Korean Reactions, Vol. 1, gave you the big ones.
Everyday Korean, Vol. 1 gave you the lines you say to people.
This album goes back to reactions. Six songs, six words.
Here they are side by side, with the two words
that make every one of them stronger.
All six at a glance

Which one do I use?
Each song teaches one word.
The confusion starts with the word right next to it.
Both happen in your body. The speed is different.
And if it is just shocking news, that is ‘헐’ from Vol. 1.
‘좋겠다’ is about them. It means “That must be nice for you.”
‘부럽다’ (Bureopda) is about you. It means “I’m jealous.”
Both cheer someone on. The timing is different.
to the tone
Three words change mood with your voice.
‘소름!’ said loud is “Wow!” ‘소름…’ said quietly is “That’s creepy.”
‘좋겠다!’ with a smile is happy. ‘좋겠다~’ with a sigh is a little jealous.
‘웃겨’ with a laugh is “Hilarious!” With a straight face, it means “Ridiculous.”
The formality ladder
Every word on this album is casual. This is how friends talk.
With a teacher, a coworker or a stranger,
you need the polite version. Here is the whole set in one place.
thumb
‘엄마야’ is a reflex.
Nobody minds it, even in front of a boss.
The polite part is the sentence you say next.
‘화이팅’ has no polite ending of its own.
With older people, ‘힘내세요’ is the safe choice.
Not sure which level to use? Go one step more polite.
Too polite is invisible. Too casual is not.
Two words that work on all six
Four of the six songs turn the feeling up the same way.
Put one of these in front.
‘완전’ is casual. With a boss, use ‘정말’ (Jeongmal) instead.
‘진짜’ is the same “Really” from ‘진짜?’.
Listen to the whole album
Every song teaches one expression, and repeats it until it sticks.
